In 2001, he joined Western Shipping Pte Ltd in Singapore, a maritime management company recognized for operational excellence and technical capability. Over the next twenty-five years, Captain Ahmed played a pivotal role in transforming the organization into a globally respected maritime enterprise.

Rising through the ranks as Managing Director, General Manager, and eventually Chairman, he led the expansion of Western Shipping’s technical management and crew management operations across Asia. Under his leadership, the company established highly sophisticated technical management systems to ensure vessel safety, operational efficiency, and environmental compliance. Specialized technical offices staffed by experienced professionals were created to supervise vessel operations with the highest standards of professionalism.

Captain Ahmed also understood that the shipping industry ultimately depends upon human capital. Recognizing the growing global shortage of qualified seafarers, he took major initiatives to establish crew management centers in Manila and Mumbai. These offices became major hubs for the recruitment, training, and management of thousands of seafarers from Asia. His alma mater and fellow alumni also honored him. The Bangladesh Marine Academy Alumni Association recognized him as “Alumni of the Year,” acknowledging not only his professional achievements but also the pride he brought to the academy and to Bangladesh itself.

Despite reaching the summit of international maritime leadership, Captain Ahmed has remained closely connected to his roots. Fellow alumni and younger officers consistently describe him as humble, approachable, and supportive. He continues to mentor younger maritime professionals and remains actively engaged with the Bangladesh Marine Academy community.
