The vessel was chartered to Shell under a one-year agreement and is projected to generate annual revenues between $10 million and $15 million. Such earnings are highly significant for Bangladesh because they contribute to foreign exchange earnings while reducing the country’s dependence on foreign vessels for energy transportation. Industry experts believe that large Bangladeshi-owned tankers can substantially reduce foreign currency expenditures on fuel imports and create new opportunities for Bangladeshi shipping companies in international charter markets.
