Left Australian Maritime College after three years of teaching with the Department of Maritime Business. He attended Faujdarhat Cadet College 1972-1976, Dhaka College 1976-1978, and Cardiff University 1994 -1995. Residing in Canberra with his wife Mrs. Shamima Ruhullah (07/12/90), daughters Ms. Sarah Shadmani Ruhullah (15/03/93) and Ms. Fariha Nusrat Ruhullah (14/11/98).
