Icom UK has introduced a communication setup that links its IP110H Wi Fi transceiver with the Starlink satellite network. The approach provides shipowners and remote site operators with clearer and more dependable voice communication in locations where regular radio infrastructure is difficult to maintain. It reflects a wider shift toward practical digital tools that support crews working far from shore.

Shipowners and operators working in remote regions have long struggled with patchy communication networks and heavy infrastructure requirements. Icom UK is now offering a straightforward alternative by pairing the Icom IP110H Wi Fi transceiver with the Starlink satellite service. The result is a wireless intercom system that gives crews clearer real time voice communication without the need for complex radio installations.

The IP110H adds dedicated voice communication to Starlink’s data connection and supports full duplex conversations. The company describes this Simultaneous TalkListen technology as a way to hold telephone like exchanges that do not rely on traditional push to talk functions. In practice this allows engineers, deck teams and maintenance crews to talk naturally while coordinating operations.

This flexibility is important for ship managers responsible for vessels or worksites operating far from conventional networks. The system extends beyond standalone units. Through the VE PG4 Radio over IP gateway, the IP110H and Starlink setup can link directly to existing Icom radio systems as well as LTE and IP phone networks. This means office based teams can speak with crews thousands of miles away using a standard desktop IP phone.

According to Icom UK, the intention is to give operators a unified communication structure that adapts to their fleet or project footprint. It also reduces the dependence on fixed infrastructure that is often difficult to support in offshore and remote environments.

The company has produced an explainer video to show how the system works and is directing customers to its IP and Wi Fi radio information pages for technical details. Its team is also available to respond to queries through its Herne Bay office.

Icom UK has been the sole importer and distributor of Icom products in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland since 1974. It supplies communication equipment across business, maritime, aviation and amateur markets and continues to develop tools aimed at improving safety and coordination for crews working in demanding conditions.
