Unlimited Starlink Comes to Merchant Shipping, No Data Caps, Free Gear

Starlink has launched an unlimited, high-speed satellite internet plan for IMO-registered cargo and tanker vessels. The promotion promises faster, more reliable connectivity at sea, helping crews stay productive and connected with family.
The landscape for maritime operators shifted earlier this year: starting May 15, 2025, Starlink began phasing out unlimited data plans for maritime customers, replacing them with capped options like 50 GB for $250, 1 TB for $1,000, or 5 TB for $5,000. These new models also include throttling to 1 Mbps once limits are exceeded, a costly challenge for heavy users.
Against this backdrop, Starlink is now offering a game-changer for merchant fleets: “Unlimited Starlink maritime service for a fixed monthly fee.” Its target market is IMO-registered cargo and tanker vessels. The promotion promises unlimited high-speed, low-latency connectivity with no data caps.
“Everyone hates datacaps on their Internet connections, especially people working at sea who have no alternative to get work done or stay in touch with family,” Jimmy Grewal, Managing Director at Elcome International LLC, emphasized the growing importance of reliable internet aboard merchant ships.
To make the deal even more compelling, Elcome International LLC, has created a new offering that includes a Starlink Flat High Performance terminal at no cost with each new activation or upgrade to the “Starlink Global Priority – Unlimited” plan. For existing customers, upgrading brings even more value: “We’ll give you a second Starlink terminal so you can benefit from effectively double the performance on your vessel without any data caps.” The offer also includes an SD-WAN router that supports load balancing, at no extra cost.
This move stands in sharp contrast to earlier Starlink maritime plans, which often came with steep hardware prices, such as the $2,500 high-performance dish, and data usage limitations. Previous offerings ranged from $250/month with a 50 GB cap, to expensive unlimited plans such as those requiring a $10,000 kit with $5,000 monthly fees. Informational sources suggest typical Starlink Maritime speeds can reach up to 220 Mbps.
Starlink’s deeper context also points to rapidly growing demand. The satellite internet provider is experiencing surging revenues, estimated between $7.8 B and $8.2 B in 2024, with projections topping $12 B in 2025. This growth, combined with increasing satellite capacity, positions Starlink well to support such unlimited maritime offerings.
Moreover, Starlink hardware claims to be built for harsh and remote marine environments. The Performance Kit is rated to withstand hurricane-force winds (up to 270 kph), wide temperature ranges, and corrosive sea air. All while maintaining a durable, long-lifespan design.
This joint Starlink–Elcome International promotion introduces a transformative offer for the maritime industry: truly unlimited, high-speed satellite internet for merchant fleets, bundled with free hardware and a fixed, predictable cost. It is a major win for operational efficiency and crew welfare, and a potential tipping point in satellite maritime connectivity. “That’s an amazing offer.. not to be missed,” said Capt. Anuj Sheel, Master Mariner with 24+ years’ experience in LNG/LPG tanker operations and maritime compliance.
