Thanks for sharing your point of views. But I am afraid this needs to be looked at from a different perspective. Because when most of us are rejoicing for the unification of two alumni I feel your reference may make few of us confused as to what the real issue is!

First of all, it is not fair to label the earlier video clips of Masranga TV with the ones by Gazi and Asia TV as “another similar video clip..”! While the former ones are fine pieces of investigative journalism but the later ones are stereotypical paid TV commercials.

Let’s talk about the tons of accolades delivered by one Secretary and two ministers! Do you honestly find those credible? Do you really agree to what they said? Let me try to help you.

I have participated in more than 150 Bangladesh government tenders. I know how unfair these tendering system is! I know how preconceived and how predetermined these tenders are! In most cases it is predetermined who will get the tender, then the whole process is developed along that line!

Further, I tried to form joint ventures for large dredger building in Bangladesh with few very reputed international companies. But could not go far enough because the foreign builders did not have the confidence whether after investing a huge sum they would get the orders, especially if there were changes of governments. Honestly I was not connected enough and couldn’t guarantee that.

Now the success of Karnaphully Shipbuilder most likely lies primarily not because they had the superior technical expertise but they had the ability to “manage” the system better than others. I am sure if similar opportunities were given to Western Marine Shipyard they could build those dredgers perhaps even better.

Let’s talk about the quality and prices of those 20 odd dredgers Karnaphully Shipbuilder delivered to WDB and BIWTA. Here I feel you may invoke your scholastic aptitude and do a good job. You may care to look at the following points :

1. Get a copy of the technical and commercial specifications of the dredgers.

2. Study them thoroughly.

3. Get a quotation from any European dredger builder.

4. You may be surprised to find that the price of the dredgers built by Karnaphully are at least three times more! Is it fair to ask “where did all those excess money go to?” Now I will request you to apply your scholastic imagination and urge you to imagine the faces of the speakers we saw in the video clip you just shared. Do you see some lights? I hope so. And that’s how most of the tender games are played in our beloved country and that’s why we are “proudly” placed at the bottom few every year’s review by the Transparency International!

5. Last but not the least, take a copy of the technical specifications and visit any of the dredgers built by Karnaphully and verify the machineries and equipment fitted on board. You may be pleasantly surprised and say “সত্যিই কী বিচিত্র এই দেশ!”

However, I am not discouraging you to share anything of interest. Because unless you speak your mind and share your point of views others can’t clarify their positions too. After all at the end iit is one’s personal choice.
