There is an urgent need for Engine Training Officers (ETO) and Watch Officers (WO) for Summer Sea Term 2021.

Engine Training Officers (ETO)

The engine training officers (ETO) will teach in the lab or classroom. For lab instruction, engineers would help teach the cadets about pumps, air compressors, valves, boilers, and misc. equipment using hands on demonstrations. For classroom instruction, we have prepackaged materials and PowerPoint slides for the course content. The instructors needed to explain the material and the most significant instruction is often peppered with the “sea story” experiences of the instructor to drive the lesson home. The prepackaged materials can be sent to the instructor prior to cruise.

An active license is not required for the instructor position, as we appreciate that some experienced engineers have let their license expire. The engineers are still wonderful assets to us as instructors, and their experience has no expiration.

Watch Officers (WO)

The engine watch officers will stand traditional watches in the engine room or day work. Engineers would maintain the plant and inform the cadets (as applicable) while on watch about the operating equipment.

An active MMC/license is required for the watch officer position.

The FULL Cruise is schedule to begin April 22, 2021 and end August 31, 2021.

There is an “A” half of the cruise and a “B” half of the cruise. The dates for the respective cruises are below:

Cruise A (April 22, 2021 thru June 27, 2021)

Cruise A1 (April 22, 2021 thru May 25, 2021)

Cruise A2 (May 25, 2021 thru June 27, 2021)

Cruise B (June 26, 2021 thru August 31, 2021)

Cruise B1 (June 26, 2021 thru July 29, 2021)

Cruise B2 (July 29, 2021 thru August 31, 2021)

The A1, A2, B1, and B2 refer to subsets of the trips to allow for greater scheduling flexibility. So engine watch officers/ engine training officers could do 33 days, or 66 days, or 99 days, or the full 132 days on the SST by doing a combination of A1, and/or A2, and/or B1 and/or B2 cruises.
