Ultranav is expanding the use of ShipIn FleetVision across its fleet following a structured pilot, deepening its use of artificial intelligence to strengthen navigational safety and risk management. The South American operator is positioning the system as part of a longer term strategy to improve operational resilience across bridge, deck and engine room functions.

Ultranav confirmed it is planning a gradual expansion of FleetVision from ShipIn Systems across additional vessels and business units. The decision follows an initial deployment within one business unit, where the platform analysed onboard video streams to generate structured safety and technical insights.

FleetVision applies artificial intelligence and computer vision to routine onboard footage, converting everyday operations into data points that can be reviewed by both ship and shore teams. During the pilot, Ultranav reported enhanced visibility into navigational practices and bridge resource management, deck operations and crew safety behaviours, and technical conditions including emerging machinery risks.

For ship management teams, the value lies in continuous operational insight rather than reliance solely on audits or post incident reviews. The system is designed to identify patterns during normal operations, enabling earlier intervention where risks begin to build. According to the companies, this supported more consistent day to day decision making within existing safety management frameworks.

Ultranav’s phased approach reflects a broader trend among large fleet operators seeking to integrate digital risk management tools without disrupting established workflows. By validating the technology under real trading conditions before extending it fleetwide, the company aims to build confidence across business units and crews.

A further outcome has been improved coordination between vessel and shore leadership. Shared access to structured operational data has helped ground discussions around safety performance, navigation standards and technical condition in evidence rather than anecdote.

For HSQES leaders and technical directors, AI driven video analytics is increasingly seen as a complement to traditional safety systems. Ultranav’s measured expansion signals that for shipowners, digitalisation is shifting from isolated pilots to embedded operational practice.
