When asked to comment on media reports that CK Hutchison Holdings are allowed to sell ports other than the Panama Canal port, Lin Jian, spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry, said on Tuesday that such reports were unfounded.

The spokesperson reiterated that the State Administration for Market Regulation has stated that it is highly concerned about the relevant transactions and will conduct reviews in accordance with the law. Relevant parties to the transaction shall not take any means to evade the review. The acquisition shall not proceed without approval, otherwise they will bear legal responsibility, the spokesperson said.

Lin noted that the Chinese government will resolutely uphold national sovereignty, security, and development interests in accordance with the law, and maintain fair and just market practices. Enterprises’ business activities must comply with relevant laws and must not harm national interests.
