This has led to a busy period for the port’s workers and officials.

On Friday, two container ships carrying materials for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant anchored at the port.

Currently, 18 ships are stationed at various points of the port, according to the port authorities.

A press release from the authorities said that a ship named MV Pacanda Antigua, carrying the Bermuda flag, docked at Jetty No 7 with a draft of 7.5 meters and a length of 142.70 meters. The ship contained 190 TEU containers.

Additionally, another container ship named Marcs Dhaka, carrying the Panama flag, is set to dock at Jetty No 8 with 207 TEU containers. This ship measures 186 meters in length and has a draft of 7.10 meters.

Meanwhile, a Russian-flagged ship named MV Melina, carrying general cargo (machinery) for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, is stationed at Jetty No 9.

Deputy Director of Mongla Port, Md Makruzzaman, stated that the beginning of 2025 has seen an increase in foreign commercial ship arrivals at Mongla Port.

Currently, 18 commercial ships are stationed at various points of the Pashur Channel.

These ships are carrying coal, fertilizer (gypsum, DAP, TSP, and MOP), clinker, LPG, stone, and various other products.

According to the press release, in the first six months of the 2024–2025 fiscal year, Mongla Port handled a total of 413 commercial ships.

During this period, 10,386 TEU containers were unloaded. Additionally, 5,637 cars were imported from 10 vehicle-carrying ships. The total import and export volume during this time amounted to 5.284 million metric tons of goods, generating revenue of Tk210 crore for the port authorities.

The authorities also noted a growth in foreign commercial ship arrivals at Mongla Port compared to the 2022–2023 fiscal year.

There was a 2.30% increase in ship arrivals, a 9.72% increase in cargo handling, a 16.78% rise in container ship arrivals, and a 13% growth in vehicle handling during the 2023–2024 fiscal year.
