LPG Sophia was on fire at Kutubdia
Last night, the vessel Bashundhara LPG Sophia was on fire. It was anchored off of Kutubdia. It is reported that the fire started from no. 3 cargo tank. The crew was rescued by Bashubdhara tugboat “Tufan Express”. More tugboats including BLPG Chatoki took part in the rescue operations.
Abdullah-47, Ashik Brehath-47, Tomal-48, Rifat-51, Samiul Sojib-51, Ifazul-57 were onboard. They are all alumni of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chattogram.
Onlookers from another vessel anchored nearby.
The assumption of suspicious fires aboard the vessels Banglar Jyoti, Shourabh, and Sophia could raise concerns about possible foul play, safety protocol failures, or other underlying issues that might have contributed to these incidents. In cases like this, it’s common for investigators to examine various factors such as:
- Mechanical or operational failure
- Human error or negligence
- Cargo-related hazards (especially if the vessels were carrying dangerous materials)
- Deliberate sabotage or malicious intent, possibly due to disputes or external interests
In the shipping industry, fires on board are serious matters, and thorough investigations are usually conducted to determine their cause. If these fires are being viewed as suspicious, it could point to potential sabotage or other criminal activities.
Have any formal investigations been launched or reports released concerning these fires? That would be a key factor in addressing these suspicions more definitively.
