At his death, Captain Masud was about 55 years old. He has been the Principal Lecturer at Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, UAE, since December 2021. His earlier positions included serving as a lecturer at the City of Glasgow College, UK, from September 2014 to December 2021; Vice Principal at the Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute from Jan 2012 to Aug 2014; and Senior Nautical Instructor at the International Maritime Academy, Aug 2009 to Dec 2011. Masud was known to be the quietest individual in his batch, a fine soul with no malice in his heart. He consistently exhibited genuine feelings and quietly supported the people he cared about. Despite his family being settled in Glasgow, Masud worked as an instructor in Abu Dhabi.
Recently, he reached out to his wife in Glasgow, expressing his loneliness, prompting her and their youngest son to travel to Abu Dhabi. On that fateful day, Masud attended an online class for the MSc program he was pursuing, followed by a swimming session with his youngest son. Upon returning home, he mentioned not feeling well.
It was Norshed Jubaer who, upon visiting Masud’s house, promptly called the paramedics. Unfortunately, Masud was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. His elder and middle sons, residing in Glasgow, are receiving support from their community. Masud’s brother has also traveled to Abu Dhabi to assist Masud’s wife in bringing him to Glasgow for his final resting place.
Tareq of the 23rd batch said, “A husband, father of three young sons, a brother, and a friend to many, Masud has departed from our lives. Those of us who knew him well will forever miss him. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”
Before joining ADMA, he was a lecturer at The City of Glasgow’s nautical college in Scotland for over seven years. He has more than twelve years of maritime training and educational experience and over twenty years of seafaring experience, including five years in command on vessels from various reputable worldwide companies.
He was a certified trainer of JRC-specific Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) and a TRANSAS-certified trainer for ship and GMDSS simulators. His expertise lies in developing and delivering UK-based HNC, HND, Mate, and Master courses, plus simulator-based STCW short courses.
Captain Masudur holds a Master Mariner Certificate of Competency from the UK and a post-graduate Teaching Qualification for Further Education (TQFE) from the University of Dundee, UK. He is also an associate of the Nautical Institute (AFNI), UK.
