Two crew members died and a third was injured after a fire broke out on 2,174 teu containership Stride (IMO 9149835) while it was moored in the Port of Houston. The port’s fire department responded to the fire, which broke out while the vessel was docked at the Barbours Cut Container Terminal. The injured seafarer was transported to the Texas Medical Centre via a medical transport helicopter.

The Port of Houston said that the fire had been extinguished and that there was no danger to the surrounding community/ The Port Houston Fire Department monitored the vessel for at least 24 hours. No firefighters were injured.

Investigations are underway by the Harris County Fire Marshall and Medical Examiners, the US Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board.

1997-built, Panama-flagged, 21,611 gt Stride is owned by Speedcarrier No 3 Corp care of manager Danaos Shipping of Piraeus, Greece. It is entered with Skuld (Skuld Piraeus) on behalf of Danaos Shipping Co Ltd.

The 1997-built Panama-flagged ship is managed by Greek company Danaos Corporation and, according to VesselsValue data, it is currently under a time charter deal with Cosco Shipping Lines.
