Urgent attention is required for Bangladeshi Seafarers

Dear All Bangladeshi Seafarers,

• 4th Engineer and Electric Engineer contract got expired and the actual contract was 6 months (+/-1) as per SEA, which got expired worked until the 9th month, but still no sign of, crew change which affect their mental health and wellbeing. BMMOA took initiative for their emergency sign off and successfully repatriated them to their homes.

• Bangladeshi Crew (first group consisting of 5 members) stranded in the outer anchorage of an Iranian Port, were repatriated to Bangladesh with full wages after BMMOA intervention.

• Repatriation of two (Chief Engineer & 2nd Engineer) Bangladeshi seafarers (2nd group) stranded onboard MV ASA NADIYA, at an anchorage in Iran. Through the intervention of BMMOA / ITF / DOS, the Wage issue was resolved & repatriated to Bangladesh.

• Received Complaint for non-payment of monthly salary from BMMOA members, the alleged manning agency received the full payment of the last 2 months of the seafarer`s on-board stay but the agency denied to pay it back, threatened seafarers, BMMOA contacted the ship owner, ITF inspector intervened and the ship was intended to be arrested in Sweden, finally manning agency came to the negotiation table and paid the seafarers salary.

• A Chief Officer was not able to join the manning agency`s assigned ship and due to the complaints lodged by the respective agent his sign off was kept held, BMMOA made an amicable solution, and the seafarer got signed off & relieved from the stress.

• Inability to adapt to the work environment & misbehaviors of seniors, unable to understand superior command (Chinese), abuse by seniors, mental harassment, and severe mental stress of young seafarers, thinking of suicidal attempts, BMMOA took all kinds of initiatives to calm him down, assuring support, recovered his unpaid wages & repatriation to home.
