APM TERMINALS PIPAVAV SETS HIGH PERFORMANCE STANDARD

Earlier this month APM Terminals Pipavav handled seven ship movements within a span of five hours. The accomplishment is significant as it was undertaken in a one-way channel, the port operator points out.

A shipping movement, a marine operation involving the berthing, unberthing or shifting of vessels calling at a port for cargo operations, is executed through the co-ordinated efforts of marine pilots, vessel masters and their crew, radio operators in the port control room, harbour tugs, mooring gangs and pilot boats.

Commenting on port’s accomplishment, Jakob Friis Sørensen, Managing Director, APM Terminals Pipavav, said, “We are proud to create a benchmark in marine operations by executing seven ship movements in five hours. We are confident of our ability to pull off such a challenging task and ensure no waiting time for incoming vessels.”

In May 2022, APM Terminals Pipavav was ranked as the most efficient Indian port in the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) developed jointly by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence and was ranked 26th on a global basis.
