Bangladesh Marine Academy Alumni Association (BMAAA), express condolences to the family of Hadisur Rahman 47E
I, on behalf of the Bangladesh Marine Academy Alumni Association (BMAAA), express our deep condolences to the near and the dear ones of Hadisur Rahman, who was killed in a “missile attack” on board Banglar Samriddhi anchored at the Olvia port in Ukraine. Hadisur Rahman was from the 47th batch of the Bangladesh Marine Academy. May Almighty Allah dwell him in Jannatul Firdaus.
To his family: I wish I could say something to ease your pain. May almighty give you patience and ease to pass through these trials.
Hadisur Rahman, was the third engineer of the ship belonging to Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, or BSC. The vessel had docked at the Ukrainian port of Olvia before Russia invaded. The bulk carrier, with 28 Bangladeshi sailors on board, is now trapped at the port amid the escalating military conflict.
It was reported that a shell struck the vessel and when detonated, third engineer Hadisur Rahman was killed. The other 28 crewmen are unharmed and the fire has been put out.
We understand, the vessel could start its journey back within two days once the channel cleared. The vessel was scheduled to pick up a shipment from the port, but given the circumstances, the shipment was cancelled. The ship had been safely docked until that day and the official said all sailors were healthy and safe and had sufficient food and water to meet their needs.
The emptied vessel set off from Turkey’s Eregli port on Feb 21 and reached the Ukrainian port on Feb 22. The sea-faring ‘MV Banglar Samriddhi’ was assigned to the BSC fleet in 2018.
