Two bodies recovered from sunken MV Amanda off Tanjung Sepang [NSTTV]

KOTA TINGGI: Two bodies of the crew members of cargo ship MV Amanda which sank off Tanjung Sepang yesterday have been recovered, says Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

Its state director First Admiral Maritime Aminuddin Abdul Rashid said the bodies of two male, a Bangladeshi and a Chinese national, were found floating where the vessel sank at 7.45 last night.

The agency was still conducting a search-and-rescue operation within a 40 miles radius from the reported location to locate another Bangladeshi crew member.

“We will focus the search on the surface and also at the bottom of the sea. A diving team is also on standby where there’s a possibility that the victim is still trapped,” he said in a press conference held at Tanjung Pengelih jetty here.

In the 2pm incident yesterday, the cargo ship which was carrying nine foreign crew members, suffered damage to its generator, causing the wheel to be non-functional.

In an attempt to make full astern, strong waves pushed the ship further before it crashed into another vessel nearby, causing it to overturn and sink.

MMEA managed to rescue five Bangladeshi and one Chinese national, while three others were reported missing.607 reads
