Western Marine to build 60 ships (600-2500 DWT) for India Inland Waterways!

Transport Minister of West Bengal Shubhendru Odhikari, Transport Secretary Alapon Bondhopaddhay and Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India Toufik Hasan, WMS Managing Director
Western Marine Shipyard (WMS) signed an MoU with Shalimar Works Limited (SWL), Kolkata on 6 June 2018 to build ships for Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI).
Under the MoU, WMS will build 60 inland ships as a part of a major programme undertaken by the West Bengal Government of India to restore and activate National Waterways-01 of India. Each ship will cost from Tk. 5 Crore to 20 Crore.
WMS MD Shakhawat Hossain said that his company has manufactured 142 ships since its incorporation in 2000; of the 142 ships, 31 were exported mainly to EU countries and including an 8,000-tonne ship for an Indian company.
WMS MD Sakhawat Hossain and SWL MD Shomdeb Chottopadhay signed the MoU in presence of Transport Minister of West Bengal Shubhendru Odhikari, Transport Secretary Alapon Bondhopaddhay and Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India Toufik Hasan.
