After BoD AGM, the meeting was opened by a speech from Captain Quamrul Hossain (6N), followed by the President  JMAAA Mr. Ashraf Ibn Noor (5N). Mr. Noor covered the present condition of the fresh alumni and suggested future course of action. Secretary of Shipping and DG Shipping elaborated further and covered the areas of challenge and the prospects in the shipping industry. The Cabinet Secretary graced the occasion with his solidarity with the maritime community.

The Cabinet Secretary and the Shipping Secretary presented the crests to the Distinguished Mariners – Abdus Salam (9E) and Azizul Islam (1N). The President of JMAAA presented crests to both the Secretaries for their kind acceptance to grace the occasion as Chief Guest and Special Guest.

The meeting was followed by an eclectic short music presentation by Ustad Azizul Islam (1N) giving a soul-warming rendition of the flute amidst ethereal silence. The audience was mesmerized by the unique style developed by the Ustad; a result of unique devotion over his lifetime. This Mariner turned cultural guru has made Bangladesh proud throughout Raga music world. We share this gift as an alumnus of the same institution.

We are incredibly proud of Abdus Salam (9E) for his dedication to placing the Bengali language in the international forum like UNESCO. The hard work by Salam and Rafiq made International Mother Language Day a concept into reality, germination to blossom. Both earned the Shadhinata Padok; a  recognition of honor by the Bangladesh government.

A sumptuous dinner followed the events. The alumni had an opportunity to mingle with each other and also with the honorable guests. In all, it can be considered a great success. A message by FR Chowdhury (1N) was read out loud, calling for the unification of the two alumni associations into one. All in all, these are indications of a positive direction, and hopefully, we will preserve our unity to seek a favorable outcome efficiently.
