Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi wa rajeun.

Captain N.H, Shah passed away in Lahore. His namaz e janaza will be held on August 26th after Jumma prayers in DHA Lahore.

He was the first Chief Officer of Marine Academy at Juldia. A great human being of strict discipline and very correct demeanor, very hard on the surface and yet so kind and fatherly within.

Mr. Zahedur Rahman (engineer and former LR Surveyor and country representative) reminisced, Captain Jafrey and the United Kingdom cadets from the pre-Juldia period visited the Marine Academy as Captain Shah’s guest. They were given a V.I.P. treatment by captain Shah.

Dilwar Ali (6E) now residing in Melbourne Australia stated:

“Our most sincere condolences for the members of his bereaved family. May Allah give them the courage and patience to bear this most painful loss and carry on with their lives. We mourn passing away of a pioneer. Lest we forget another fallen marine heavy weight. A highly dedicated person who used a binocular to watch from his bungalow, groomed the first batch cadets with highest military discipline, instilled intelligence who are role model now and next generations of merchant naval officers.”

Captain F.R. Chowdhury (1N) residing in London, U.K. stated:

“Dear mariners,

I have come to know from an e-mail of Rashid Kazmi – 2/E that Capt. N.H. Shah, the first chief officer of the marine academy has died.

Capt Shah was ex-navy and had the experience of commanding Pakistan’s largest passenger ship t.s.s. Safina-e-Hujjaj. With his unique background he was best suited to be the first chief officer of the academy. He was the head of the nautical department. He looked after routine, discipline and other organizational matters. Informatively, Commander Ansari was the head of the engineering department.

Under the dynamic leadership of Commodore Alavi, these two departmental heads worked hard to set-up a system and tradition on which the academy still operates.

We remember with gratitude what they did for us. May Allah rest in peace their departed souls in heaven.

Fazlur (01, UK)”.

Captain Shah (pre-Juldia pioneer mariner) stated:

“Dear Fazlu,

Thanks for the info. I served under his command as Chief Officer on Safina-e Nusrat. He was a very hard task Master as A Master but very soft as a friend later. I learned a lot of things from him and he was very affectionate later in his life. I contacted him later whenever I was in Karachi.

I just reached USA in my son’s place.

Salam

Shafi (Pioneer, Bangladesh)”
