New Mooring Container Terminal opens

New Mooring Container Terminal opened yesterday eight years after its construction. Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan inaugurated the terminal at berth No 2 in Chittagong Port yesterday afternoon. The one-kilometre long New Mooring Container Terminal will help double the cargo handling capacity in the port. The terminal with huge backyard facilities for storage of containers was constructed at a cost of about Tk566 crore. The users of Chittagong port and businesses have long been pushing for using the biggest terminal of the port as they faced problems in getting prompt delivery of import cargo due to lack of adequate handling facilities. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Chittagong City Corporation mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, MA Latif, MP, and Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Nizam Uddin Ahmed, among others.
