Mr. Abdul Awal Mintoo (alumni from the 5th batch) receiving the award for his great work done for the Marine Academy.

It started before the Golden Jubiliee celebrations on January 4, 2013. A few bright academy graduates decided to have a huge bash at the Chin Moitri Convention Center in Dhaka with half a dozen ministers present. Due to protests from alumni from all over the world, they scaled it down to the Marine Academy campus. They launched an Alumni Association by the name Bangladesh-Marine-Academy-Alumni-Association and held the Golden Jubilee under this name. Please visit the following site for this alumni association.

Epilogue

“ABMA at no stage recognised that JMAAA was already formed at Chittagong and officially declared in 2005 although some of the key organisers of the current ABMA were physically present at the initial meeting and declaration of JMAAA. The first Commandant of Marine Academy at Juldia in Bangladesh, late Capt ML Rahman was one of the pioneers in forming & declaring this in cooperation with at least 3 other ex-Commandants and some prominent mariners, which has not been recognised in the resolution recently adopted by ABMA – it said JMAAA was started in USA or Canada in 2005, which is not correct”.

Do we need to associate ourselves with these? I think we would have a unique identity as Juldians!

ABMA did not recognise that JMAAA was already formed and declared in 2005 and the first Commandant of Marine Academy, Juldia Capt ML Rahman was one of the pioneers in forming & declaring this and at least 3 other ex-Commandants, which has not be recognised in the resolution adopted by so called ABMA. It said JMAAA started in USA or Canada in 2005, which is not correct.
