Minutes: Annual Gathering July 6-7, 2012 Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Minutes of the JMAAA annual Meeting on Saturday 7 July, 2012, held at Niagara, ON, Canada

The meeting was chaired by the current president Mr. Ashfaqul Haq. The following points were discussed:

Approval of Agenda:

The agenda was proposed by Ghulam Suhrawardi and seconded by Qudrat E Khoda.

Approval of minutes of the 2011 annual meeting:

Minutes of 2011 annual meeting was proposed by Mr. S.M. Abdullah and seconded by Mr. Ghulam Suhrawardi.

Matter arising from last minutes:

·         We failed to increase the membership and collect the membership dues from all present members, we need to continue to pursue all members to pay their membership dues on time at the same time try and pursue non-members Juldians to join the organization.

·         Membership collection this year has been better than the last year.

·         Attending member in the AGM has increased from 10 during last year to 15 during current year.

Treasurer’s report:

·         Mr. Ghulam Suhrawardi presented the financial report to the members. All members after scrutinizing the report approved the financial.

·         Mr. Ghulam Suhrawardi stated that he has created a charity fund in Bangladesh and opened a fixed deposit account. He has contributed Taka 2 Lakhs and plans to increase this amount to 10 Lakhs.

Discussion on financial help Mr. Fakhruddin Khaled:

·         The members decided to continue assisting Mr. Fakhruddin Khaled with Taka 7000 per month.

Maritime museum:

·         The members decided to continue maintaining the maritime museum in Chittagong and pay the caretaker Taka 7000 per month.

Election of officers:

·         The office bearers are elected every two years. The following office bearers were elected unanimously:

o   President: Mr. Abid Choudhury

o   Vice President: Mr. Qudrat E Khoda

o   Treasurer: Mr. Ghulam Suhrawardi (re-elected)

o   Secretary: Mr. Mafizur Rahman

Next meeting time & venue:

·         Mr. Ghulam Suhrawardi proposed that the reunion be held every alternate year instead of every year. The proposal was seconded by Mr. Munir Rashid.

·         Next reunion will be held in 2014.

·         The proposed date for the reunion was suggested to be August 9^th, 2014. The executive committee to discuss the matter and reconfirm the date in due time.

Any other business (AOB):

·         The members discussed and agreed that only Juldians will be eligible to become members of JMAAA. However other mariners are allowed to attend JMAAA functions as guests of the member.

·         The motion was proposed by Ashfaqul Haq and seconded by Abul Hossain.
