Graduation of the 45th batch of Cadets from Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chittagong

1. Cricket World Cup!
Cricket World Cup is already ringing in Bangladesh soil!
2. Graduation Parade – 45 Batch
Hon?ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given her kind consent to visit Bangladesh Marine Academy on 26th February in occasion of the Graduation Parade of 184 Cadets (record number) of the 45th Batch. It is the FIRST time the Academy is receiving a Prime Minister in its campus; therefore, the 45th Batch is the FIRST Prime Minister?s Batch!
On the day, Hon?ble PM will also be performing the following items:
A) Placing the Foundation Plaque of
Maritime University
New Cadet Block
New Office Building
B) Placing the Inaugural Plaque of
New Website
e-Learning
Computer Lab
Language Lab
Electronic Lab
Training Electric Generators (2×125 kVA each with parallelling facility)
Maritime Museum (Sponsored by JMAAA – Juldia Marine Academy Alumni Association)

C) Renaming the existing Cadet Block as
Shaheed Liakuat Ali Cadet Block (Liakuat Ali [9th Batch], only Mariner Martyr of 1971)
D) Awarding Gold Medals to
Mariner Freedom Fighters (13 persons); [Medals sponsored by Prime Bank Ltd]
3. New Awards/Medals
In occasion of this great event, besides the existing awards/medals, new ones are:
i) Prime Bank is introducing a Gold Medal for Best Cadet (President?s Gold Medal is for Best All-round Cadet) of the year.
ii) Prantik Marine is introducing a Gold Medal to Best Sportsman (Cadet) of the year.
4. Generous hands…
In occasion of this great event
i) Prime Bank has donated a speed-boat to the Academy.
ii) ATN Bangla will record the whole programme for broadcasting in their channel.
iii) Banshundhara Group has provided a remarkable assistance.
vi) Wallem Shipmanagement will be declaring employing 20 Cadets.
vii) VShips, Hong La Marine, Everlast Shipping & many more will provide employments.
viii) BSC, Banshundhara Shipping, Abul Khayer Shipping, Brave Royal Shipping, Continental Shipping and many Bangladesh Ship Management Companies & Manning Agents (foreign employers) will provide employment.
5. IMO Secretary General?s Visit
His Excellency Efthimios E. Mitropoulos, IMO Secretary General has visited Bangladesh Marine Academy on 13th February. 400 Cadets provided him a Guard of Honour. He has inaugurated the Seafarer?s Memorial & planted a Mango Tree (National Tree). Informatively, the Seafarer?s Memorial has been erected in honour of the 25 Mariners ?lost at sea? or ?missing in action? during 1980 – 2010.
In presence of the Officers, Staff, Cadets and Friends of WMU Bangladesh (WMU Graduates) IMO Sec-Gen has expressed his deep satisfaction observing the high standard of the Academy & its Cadets. He has promised to provide all possible Technical Co-operation from IMO in the upgrading project (Academy to Maritime University); accordingly a 2-member IMO Experts Team will visit the Academy in 4-8 April 2011. He has also approved one scholarship from ?IMO Global Programme? to an instructor of the academy for studying MSc in World Maritime University, Sweden (commencing from Sept 2011).
6. MV Jahan Moni
Every Friday, special prayers are being held in academy mosque. This will continue till we get back our fellow mariners from the hands of Somalian Pirates.
