Meeting convened 11:00 to 12:30 hours August 03, 2008

Minutes of the meeting
• First order of business, selecting the new president. Outgoing President, Mr. Sultan Taufiq (2nd batch) could not attend the meeting. However as per constitution, the 2 year term being over, It was proposed (Mr. G. Suhrawardi- 6th batch) that, Mr. Munirul Islam (4th batch) be the new President. The proposal was seconded by (Mr.H. Bhuyian 5th batch or Mr. Ziauddin 6th batch) and the voting confirmed the position of President of Mr. Munirul Islam.

• It was also decided to change the VP role. Mr. Fakir Ziauddin (5th batch) proposed that Mr. Ashfaqul Haq (13th batch) be the new VP which was seconded by Mr. S. Ekramul (18th batch) and voting confirmed the appointment of Mr. Ashfaqul Haq

• Secretary (Mr. Fakir Ziaddduin (5th batch) and Treasurer Mr. G. Suhrawardi (6th batch) to remain in their respective posts for the next term. It was voted amongst membership and resolution accepted.

• New position of Assistant Secretary was proposed by Mr. Fakir Ziauddin (5th batch). It was proposed that Mr. M. Rahman (13th batch) be the assistant Secretary by Mr. Fakir Ziauddin, Seconded by Mr. H. Bhuyian (5th batch). The proposal was voted and accepted by the membership.

• Joining of non academy mariners: As per constitution. No voting rights – Associate members only.

• Newsletter: It was discussed that a newsletter to be published by the Alumni Association every quarter. Suggestion from the floor suggested the option to put out a soft copy to be supported by email reminder to the members. It was reminded by Mr. G. Suhrawardi (6th batch) The Association’s website www.juldians.org is active. Mr. Fakir Ziauddin (5th batch) requested Mr. Mafizur Rahman (13th batch) to and participant’s may use the forum to update newsletter. No final conclusion was reached.

• Scholarship fund: Raised $4700. This money is to be exclusively used for academic purposes for the Marine Academy, Chittagong including scholarship .

• Discussion centered around reimbursing the cost of the Canadian function. It was suggested that Ahfaque/Mofiz to submit cost to the association of Aug 2~3.

• Membership fees : The fee is $100/year.

• Next year’s program: Discussion will be made as how much it will cost for next year’s event.

• Next year’s program: Date: As discussed last year, the date August 01 and 02. Starting 10 AM. Meeting starts at 10 AM, and will continue until 12 AM. Rest of the time.

• Venue: Venue will be alternating between countries each year.

• Discussion centered around Lake George (Mrs. Islam, seconded by Ekramul (18th batch).

• Mr. Suhrawardi (6th batch) suggested that the price should be around $100/night.

• Members will cover the stay, treasury will take care of the food.

• Mrs. Fakir Ziauddin suggested that Lake Placid as a fall back to the Lake George suggestion.

• Proposal (Capt Bhuiyan) – Recognition of the performers (children under 18) to be awarded gift. Mr. Suhrawardi seconded.

• Capt. Bhuiyan suggested $20 to the performers. Total $100 paid out to 5 kids who performed on August 2 in Ancaster, Ontario.

• Money raised $1600 and $900 Cheque.
